Breakthrough in the field of "serial refurbishment" in residential buildings

Over the next four years, the Energiesprong volume deal agreed at the end of November 2019 is to be implemented. Participating in the deal are 22 housing companies, four construction companies and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BmWi). Part of the deal is the serial refurbishment of 11,635 apartments provided by the 22 housing companies.

With the resolution agreed at the dena Energy Transition Congress 2019, the housing and construction industries are setting a decisive example in the introduction of serial renovation solutions. The long-term goal is to fully establish serial renovation solutions in the real estate and construction industries. Specifically, this will involve using 3-D scans to record buildings in such a way that facade elements and solar roof elements can be prefabricated with millimeter precision using Industry 4.0 and only need to be assembled on the construction site.

Windows, insulation and exterior plastering as well as the plant technology are also to be prefabricated and installed in the elements and energy modules in advance. This standard in the field of "serial refurbishment" is referred to as the Net Zero Standard and is defined above all by the significantly reduced working times on the construction site as well as socially acceptable costs. A building achieves a complete net-zero standard or zero-energy standard if it can produce all the energy it requires in the year for electricity, hot water and heating itself.
