Promotion of the energy consulting services offered by the consumer centers

There are currently around 500 independent energy consultants in Germany who help private individuals analyze their energy consumption and show them ways to live and reside more energy-efficiently in the future. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) supports the advisory services offered by the consumer advice centers. A large part of the advice offered is free of charge, while a fee of 30 euros is charged for some topics. For low-income households, the entire range of advice is free of charge.

Tenants and owners have the opportunity to ask basic energy-saving questions at a personal appointment in one of the numerous advice centers, by phone or online. Here, interested parties are informed free of charge about ways to save electricity, about different heating systems or criteria for the selection of electrical appliances. They also receive information about the numerous funding opportunities. The basic check is also free of charge and provides an overview of personal electricity and water consumption, classifies the appliances in the household and provides information about savings opportunities.

With a deductible of 30 euros, tenants and private house and apartment owners can obtain information on additional, specific topics. The building check provides an assessment of the heating system and the building envelope; in the solar heat check, the settings of the solar thermal systems are checked and optimally adjusted, and in the heating check, an expert checks the heating system. Questions about solar energy and solar systems can be clarified in the solar suitability check. Further information on energy consulting can be found on the BMWi website.
