New regulations for residential ventilation systems

New standards have applied to the design, commissioning and maintenance of residential ventilation systems since the first quarter of 2020. In the new version of DIN 1946-6 "Ventilation of dwellings - General requirements, requirements for design, execution, commissioning and handover as well as maintenance", the requirements for residential ventilation systems have been adapted to current developments in the field of construction and production.

DIN 1946-6 is primarily intended for the use of residential ventilation systems in residential buildings and describes all important aspects and conditions of use for free and fan-assisted ventilation. Likewise, the new version of the standard provides a detailed description of the ventilation concept and describes factors of new combined ventilation systems.

The aim of the regulations is to ensure a good air exchange rate, even in buildings built close together. The new DIN 1946-6 serves as an aid and recommendation for achieving a health-promoting air exchange. In the new version, interested parties will find a great deal of information - for example, on hygienic requirements, filtering of outside air, and insulation of ducts or arrangement of diffusers. By complying with the standards prescribed in DIN 1946-6, mold growth, moisture damage or the formation of pollutants can be counteracted.
