Tips: Build Tiny House yourself

If you want to build a mini house, also called Tiny House, yourself, you can orientate yourself on two different building models. For beginners, who have little craft knowledge and experience, the construction kit principle is suitable. This model also has the advantage that some of the required permits are issued more quickly by the offices. More experienced craftsmen who build according to the blueprint principle can implement their ideas in terms of design as they have always wanted. In addition, they can save costs by doing the work themselves.

Construction plans and instructions for Tiny Houses can be found on the Internet. However, most of these are only in English, as they come from American suppliers. It should also be checked whether the instructions refer only to the shell of the Tiny House or also contain instructions for the interior. Both the materials and tools needed and detailed instructions on how to proceed should be included in the construction plans. But caution is advised, because the American building regulations or the road traffic regulations cannot be transferred to the German regulations without further ado.

In most cases, a Tiny House requires a building permit, despite its small size of about 8 to 30 square meters. If the Tiny House is on a trailer, it is subject to road traffic laws and does not require a building permit. The cost factors for a Tiny House include, in addition to the material and construction costs, for example, costs for the land, the land transfer tax and, if applicable, costs for a real estate agent, notary and the land register entry. In addition, there are costs for the supply technology and interior fittings, as well as other official costs such as for the building permit or land surveying.
