Tip: properly paint baseboards

If you want to renovate your home and paint the walls or change the wallpaper, you should also paint the baseboards. This way, small defects can be repaired directly, such as dents or scratches. With a little diligence and craftsmanship, the painting work can also be done on your own without any problems.

But before painting, the baseboards should first be sanded with fine-grain sandpaper. If deeper scratches, holes or chipped paint become visible during sanding, these should be repaired with wood filler. Once the filler has been applied, hobby craftsmen should allow it to soak in for about twelve hours. In the meantime, the floor can be covered with paper or fleece. To avoid leaving paint marks on the walls during painting, the transition from the baseboard to the wall should be masked with crepe paper.

There are also some important points to consider when painting. True to the motto "less is more", it is advantageous to use the paint or varnish sparingly. This prevents dripping and unevenness. To achieve an even color result, it is also important to paint the baseboards lengthwise with long brush strokes. When choosing paint, it is important not only to choose the right color, but also to pay attention to quality. Because by using quality paint, usually only one coat is necessary and the freshly painted baseboards will shine in new splendor for a long time.
