The variety of garage doors

Anyone who owns a garage is spoiled for choice when it comes to finding the right door. Whether roller door, sectional door, up-and-over door, sliding door or swing door, garage doors come in different functionalities and materials. For example, owners can choose between aluminum, plastic or wooden doors. Garage doors can be opened manually or electronically. What today's designs have in common is that since 2005 they have met high safety standards and performance requirements in accordance with DIN standard EN 13241-1.

In Germany, overhead gates are the most commonly used variant. Although they are inexpensive compared to the other gates, they have one major disadvantage: just like swing gates, they require sufficient space to open and close, as their entire size is swung outward. If necessary, objects standing in the garage entrance must be moved out of the way. If required, an overhead door can be equipped with an electric motor and can be operated at the touch of a button. A swing gate is usually made of wood and impresses with its charming appearance.

Rolling doors as well as sectional doors are characterized by the fact that they are not swung outward, but when opened, they contract inside the garage. In the case of a roller door, it should be remembered that the shutters are screwed into a roller shutter box. This hangs from the ceiling inside the garage and requires additional space. Rolling doors are moved with the help of an electric motor, as the shutters are heavy and cannot be pushed up by hand. Sectional doors also do not require swing space. They consist of rectangular individual elements located on the side (side sectional doors) or on the ceiling (overhead sectional doors), which are pushed together. Sliding doors are opened and closed on rails and can be opened and closed manually or electronically.
