Wallbox for electric car

For those who own an electric car, a "wallbox" offers a good solution for charging the e-car. This can be easily installed outdoors on a house wall or carport as well as indoors, for example in a garage. If the smart wall charging station is to be installed in an apartment building, it is necessary to consult with the other homeowners or the property management. Tenants should also clarify what will happen to the wallbox if the tenancy is terminated.

Even if the installation of the wallbox is usually unproblematic, it should never be done on your own. Since it is operated with three-phase alternating current, a specialist should carry out the work. This person checks the mains connection and knows whether installation work such as laying cables or breaking through walls is required. When selecting the charging station, care should be taken to ensure that it matches the car. The on-board charger of the car, the power of the wallbox and the charging cable should be matched.

Compared to a household outlet, a smart wall charging station features higher power and a faster and safer charging curtain. While a normal household socket delivers a maximum power of 3.68 kilowatts (kW), a standard wallbox delivers a much higher power of up to 22 kW. With an output of 3.7 to 11 kW, the cost of a wallbox is between 400 and 1,000 euros. More powerful models between 11 and 22 kW are available for 600 to 2,000 euros. However, it is important to note that a charging station with 22 kW charging power requires approval from the network operator. In addition to the costs for the wallbox, the installation costs must also be added. Subsidies can be applied for through programs such as "Energy-efficient renovation (151 and 430)" and the "Environmental program (240 and 241)" and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW).
