Anyone who leases an allotment garden (also called an allotment garden) must abide by the rules of the Federal Allotment Garden Law (BKleingG). Allotment gardens are land owned by the municipality and tenants can use them for a small fee. According to the Bundesverband Deutscher Gartenfreunde, leaseholders pay 18 cents for one square meter of an allotment garden; in large cities the figure is 22 cents. With an average size of 370 square meters, the rent amounts to about 67 to 81 euros per year. In addition, the membership fee for the allotment garden association must be included in the calculation, as well as electricity and sewage costs and insurance. Tenants of an allotment garden therefore pay a total of about 500 euros a year.
