Interview: Owner-occupied homes in demand among 25- to 39-year-olds

According to Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall, 39 percent of 25- to 39-year-olds would like to buy or build their own home within the next ten years. Corona is not changing this either. Ralf Oberländer, financing expert of the building society, assumes however that the real estate prices will continue to rise.

He also expects that the supply of housing will not meet the high demand. According to forecasts, the approximately 350,000 apartments needed would be offset by only 295,000 housing completions in 2023.

Nevertheless the financing expert advises prospective customers with sufficient own capital funds and safe income to the real estate purchase. Among other things, the "robustness of the market" speaks in favor of this. In addition, it benefits old-age provision and capital formation if people pay the real estate loan instead of the rent.
