Funding: More opportunities for sustainable buildings

The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) points out that the funding opportunities for sustainable buildings have become much more extensive. Through the new federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG), sustainability in construction is no longer reduced to energy efficiency alone. Builders or owners can also benefit from the associated introduction of a new sustainability class (NH class). This makes the promotion of further sustainability services possible.

Eligible sustainability services include, among others, the calculation of life cycle costs, the preparation of a life cycle assessment or the measurement of indoor air quality. In addition, services relating to sound insulation and increasing the thermal and visual comfort of a property can also be funded. In order to receive funding, buildings must be used for their intended purpose for at least ten years. The size of the property also plays a role in the amount of the subsidy.

The NH class is awarded to buildings that bear the Quality Seal Sustainable Building (QNG) and thus meet all individual federal requirements. In addition, the building must be awarded a DGNB certificate. This requires an auditor who ensures that the building projects comply with the QNG requirements, among other things. The costs for this are also subsidized. For more information, interested parties can visit www.dgnb.de/beg-foerderung. The DGNB also offers online information events that provide information on the topic.
