Building: New EPD for sand-lime bricks

A new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available for sand-lime bricks. Environmental Product Declarations provide information on the environmental impact and life cycle of individual components. The new EPD was prepared in accordance with ISO 14025 and the new DIN 15804+A2 standard and includes data sets from 52 German sand-lime brick manufacturing plants from 2019, and is valid until 2026.

According to information from the German Sand Lime Brick Industry Association (BV KSI), the CO2 balance of sand lime brick production has improved over the last five years. In the "Global Warming Potential" indicator, a CO2 saving of around eight percent was recorded compared to the EPD from 2016.

The new environmental product declaration of the BVI KSI, which represents the interests of more than 76 sand-lime brick plants in Germany, can be viewed free of charge on the kalksandstein.de website, among others. It is aimed at architects, building owners, facility managers and other interested parties, among others.
