Apartment for rent: tips for beautification

How can tenants beautify their apartment? Which measures can they carry out on their own? When do they need the landlord's consent? The portal "schoener-wohnen.de" looks into these questions. The most important thing in advance: Superficial changes that can be undone may usually be carried out by the tenant himself. However, if the building fabric of the apartment is interfered with, the landlord's consent is required.

For example, tenants are allowed to paint the walls, drill holes and lay a new floor. If they lay a new floor, however, the old floor must remain intact. That is why a so-called floating installation is required, in which the old floor is not connected to the new one. Click systems, for example, are used for this purpose. If there is an old wooden floor in the apartment that needs to be sanded down, the landlord's consent should be obtained.

A new kitchen countertop can also upgrade the rental apartment, according to "schoener-wohnen.de". If the kitchen was taken over by the previous tenant or if it is the own kitchen, the exchange is no problem. Differently it looks however, if the kitchen is integrated into the renting apartment. In this case, the landlord's consent is required before the kitchen can be replaced. Landlords should also not change doors on their own initiative, as these are part of the building fabric.
