Furniture: DGM gives tips on purchasing environmentally conscious products

The German Furniture Quality Association (DGM) now advises tenants and owners how to be environmentally conscious when buying furniture. In addition it holds three Tipps for prospective customers ready. Firstly, tenants or owners can pay attention to good furniture quality and choose durable products that are compatible with health and the environment. According to the DGM, the RAL quality mark "Golden M" indicates this.

Second: When buying furniture, care can be taken to ensure that it is made of wood, and a high proportion of solid wood is advantageous. The DGM explains the reason for this as follows: "[...] The material from the forest comes from sustainable forestry in this country: for over 300 years, no more wood may be harvested in Germany than will grow back." Sustainable forestry offers the potential to store greenhouse gases that threaten the climate.

Thirdly: Seals such as "Furniture production climate neutral" or "Furniture climate neutral" enable tenants and owners to recognize furniture that is also considered climate neutral beyond production. Only companies that follow a three-step principle receive seals. First, they must calculate the carbon footprint for their company, then reduce their emissions, and finally offset unavoidable emissions by purchasing climate protection certificates.
