Cabinets: Do not place directly against the wall

The Initiative Pro Massivholz (IPM) points out the advantages of a closet made of solid wood in a funny way: "[...] The natural material wood [is] inherently antistatic and thus does not attract dirt as well as dust, which means that the decision in favor of a solid wood wardrobe plays straight into the cards of cleaning buffs," explains Andreas Ruf, managing director of IPM. In addition, closets made of solid wood offer further advantages of stability and durability, according to IPM.

In addition, closets made of solid wood can be tailored to special customer requirements and, among other things, can be installed exactly in sloping ceilings. If closets are built, the distance from the wall should be five to six centimeters, so that the air can circulate. In addition, in the bedroom, care should be taken to ensure a minimum distance of 80 centimeters between the bed and the closet. In this way, according to IPM, the occupants not only get out of bed well, but also have good access to the closet.

How large the closet should be depends on the number of occupants who use it. As a rule of thumb, IPM recommends one cubic meter of wardrobe volume per person. By choosing an appropriate grain, the look of a room can be influenced accordingly. Vertically grained cabinet fronts create an optical stretching of the room, whereas horizontally grained cabinet fronts can make the room appear visually lower.
