Study: High willingness to invest for more sustainability

Germans not only have a heightened environmental awareness, they are also under increasing cost pressure. This is the finding of the study "Ecological Sustainability as a Driver of the Transformation of Housing in Germany," which was conducted by the Technical University of Darmstadt in cooperation with the real estate loan broker baufi24.de.

Among other things, the researchers found out that private households already want to take measures during the construction process so that they can later live in an environmentally conscious and cost-effective manner. In addition, more than 80 percent of prospective buyers and owners are willing to optimize the technical building equipment and invest in solar systems, heat pumps or electricity storage.

However, the study also shows that a large proportion of respondents already have to spend a lot of money on housing. More than 40 percent of those surveyed stated that they spend more than a third of their net household income on housing.
