If you are also interested in gardening in connection with building a house, the guide "The natural garden - ecological garden design made easy" published by the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district authority provides helpful tips on the right planting and maintenance of the garden. Among other things, the guide shows that a natural design is advisable in order to make a small contribution to nature and climate protection.
Among other things, care can be taken to use native rather than exotic plant species. The reason for this is that native plant species are more robust and exotic plant species often require fertilizers or pesticides that can pollute the groundwater. In addition, native plants offer native animals a wider range of food. The guide gives an example of this: "For example, native juniper feeds 43 bird species, whereas Chinese juniper only feeds one species."
The guide also contains examples of which plants can be used for a near-natural garden design. Suitable wild shrubs include blackberry, blackthorn and redcurrant. With regard to wildflowers, meadow sage, musk mallow and giant bluebells can be chosen. Interested parties can find further tips in the guide, which was created as part of measure 2 "Ecological Garden Campaign" of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf Climate Action Package in cooperation with the Association of German Land Users and the Berlin-Malchow Nature Conservation Association.
