How do people in Germany want to live in old age? Ipos GmbH investigated this question on behalf of "Apotheken Umschau". The focus was on the so-called baby boomers, i.e. respondents between the ages of 50 and 64. The result was that over half of those surveyed (53 percent) could imagine living in a multi-generational house in old age.
Other forms of moving in together are also an option for respondents (37%). In addition, 34% of respondents could imagine subletting part of their home to younger people if it becomes too big for them alone. 29% of respondents want to look for a smaller apartment when they get older.
Although the majority of respondents (76%) believe that help from family and neighbors will become increasingly important in old age, they would like to remain independent for as long as possible. To this end, 50 percent of respondents would rely on smart home solutions that allow them to control devices remotely, for example. A total of 1,000 people aged 14 and over were surveyed for the study, 267 of whom were in the relevant age group.
