The winners of the "Häuser-Awards 2023" of the architecture magazine "Häuser" for individual solutions in existing buildings have been announced. First place went to Berlin architect Thomas Kröger (Thomas Kröger Architekten) for the "Haus in den Söllen" in the Uckermark region - a country house with a rendered façade.
Second place goes to the DMVA office from Mechelen for the "PVO House" in Mechelen, Belgium. The office renovated the experimental residential building designed by Lucien Engels in 1957 with staggered levels in a contemporary style. The office was praised above all for its "sensitive handling of existing architecture from the 1950s".
Third place went to Leipzig architect Florian Voigt (Büro Voigt) for the "Blechbüchse" (tin box) in Leipzig. An extension to an old building was created from a slender steel construction.
