Building: New EPD for sand-lime brick

There is a new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for sand-lime bricks. Environmental Product Declarations provide information on the environmental impact and life cycle of individual components. The new EPD was created in accordance with ISO 14025 and the new DIN 15804+A2 standard and includes data records from 52 German sand-lime brick manufacturing plants from 2019. It is valid until 2026.

According to the German Association of the Sand Lime Brick Industry (BV KSI), the carbon footprint of sand lime brick production has improved over the last five years. The "Global Warming Potential" indicator showed a CO2 saving of around eight percent compared to the EPD from 2016.

The new environmental product declaration from BVI KSI, which represents the interests of over 76 sand-lime brickworks in Germany, can be viewed free of charge on the kalksandstein.de website, among others. It is aimed at architects, building owners, facility managers and other interested parties.
