Competition: Success for graduates of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Phil Niemeyer, Felix Roder and Niklas Haschke, all graduates of Bauhaus-Universität Weimer, were successful in the nationwide "Built on IT" competition. The competition is about finding innovative digital solutions in the construction industry. The winning entries deal with current challenges in the construction industry, such as cost-effective construction, digitalization and achieving climate protection targets.

Former architecture students Phil Niemeyer and Felix Roder won in the "Architecture" category with their semester project "Smart Allocate". They look at how an algorithm-based tool can facilitate the planning of affordable housing. Niklas Haschke won the "Civil Engineering" category with his open source software "Structural Web Tool", which he developed on the basis of his final thesis in structural engineering. The software enables the implementation of life cycle assessments in the early design phases of construction projects and thus supports the saving of resources in new and existing buildings.

The award ceremony took place in mid-April at the "BAU" trade fair. The competition "Built on IT - Construction professions with a future" organized by the RKW Competence Center is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. It was launched in 2002 and is aimed at trainees, students and young employees who want to help shape the future of the construction industry with innovative IT applications.
