Digital: Bavaria tests digital twins

The Free State of Bavaria wants to become a modern digital state with the help of so-called "digital twins". A "digital twin" is the mapping of an object from the real world into the virtual world. The aim is to simulate various processes with the help of digital twins. These can be situations from road traffic, for example. The digital twins are also used to find out how energy efficiency can be increased in cities.

We are currently still looking for municipalities that would like to take part in the "TwinBy - Digital Twins for Bavaria" project. Up to 20 projects from Bavarian municipalities can currently be tested. The municipalities will receive support from the Bavarian Ministry of Digital Affairs in setting up the digital twins and will be advised on issues by selected service providers, for example. The prerequisite for participation is that employees from the specialist and IT departments commit at least eight hours per week to the project.

For example, administrative communities, municipal associations, special-purpose associations and integrated rural developments can apply. Applications for funding can be submitted until Tuesday, January 31. The funding applications will be checked by Bayern Innovativ GmbH as the project management organization to ensure that they meet the requirements. However, if the requirements are met, the funding decisions for the projects will be awarded according to the time of receipt, the so-called priority principle.
