In terms of net electricity generation, photovoltaics, among other things, increased from 2021 to 2022. This was reported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. According to the report, solar power generation increased by 19 percent from 2021 to 2022. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE attributes this to the expansion on the one hand and the sunny weather on the other.
In total, German photovoltaic systems generated around 58 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2022. Around 53 TWh of this was fed into the public grid and 5 TWh was consumed by the plants themselves. The addition of 6.1 gigawatts of EEG systems also increased the installed capacity to around 66 gigawatts (as of November 2022). According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, this was the highest increase in photovoltaic installations since 2013.
