Owners or tenants who do not have space for a solar system on the roof can instead equip their balcony or terrace with a so-called plug-in solar device. The energy advice service of the consumer advice center now points this out. These plug-in solar devices are approximately 1.00 x 1.70 meter modules with an output of around 300 watts.
However, various requirements must be met in order to install such a plug-in solar appliance. For example, owners or tenants need the consent of the owners' association or landlord. In addition, only plug-in solar devices that comply with the safety standards of the German Solar Energy Society (DGS 0001:2019-10) should be purchased. In addition, the solar devices must be registered with the property management company, the local grid operator and the Federal Network Agency.
According to the consumer advice center, anyone purchasing a 300 watt plug-in solar device should expect to pay around 500 euros. Additional costs may also be incurred for installation. Depending on the location, a corresponding plug-in solar device generates 200 to 300 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
