The association Wohnen im Eigentum (WiE) is calling for legal simplifications for the supply of electricity to condominiums. WiE has two specific concerns in this regard. Firstly, homeowners' associations (WEG) should be defined as "self-suppliers". Secondly, there should be an obligation to purchase self-generated solar power for all residents of a WEG.
With regard to the first point, the WiE criticizes the fact that a WEG is treated in the same way as a legal entity, but the apartment owners are private individuals. This means that WEGs that want to produce and consume electricity themselves are not treated as self-suppliers, but as electricity providers. Among other things, they would therefore have to complete a large number of documents.
With regard to the second point, WiE explains that a solar system is only economically viable for a condominium if all residents purchase the solar power and not just apartment owners who live in their apartments. The WiE therefore demands that tenants should also be obliged to purchase solar power from the WEG.
