Energy: 2/3 of Germans are prepared to heat less

Putting on a sweater, wrapping up in a blanket and heating less - two thirds of Germans would be prepared to do this in winter to make Germany more independent of energy supplies from Russia. This is the result of a survey conducted by the forsa opinion research institute on behalf of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) for the DBU Environmental Monitor "Energy Transition and Living".

The 18 to 29-year-olds (73%) would be most likely to put this plan into practice, followed by the over-60s (65%) and the 30 to 59-year-olds (62%). Overall, according to the survey, slightly more women (68%) than men (61%) are prepared to heat their homes less. In addition to these results, the survey also shows that most respondents (87%) consider energy efficiency measures in buildings to be very important or important.

According to DBU Secretary-General Alexander Bonde, the building sector is "a crucial key to solving energy policy challenges". The DBU Secretary General explains: "We need to tackle the old building stock. It's about energy efficiency, energy saving and the expansion of renewable energies and helps to combat the climate crisis. At the same time, this will lead to independence from fossil fuels and energy imports from abroad." For the survey, 1,000 citizens aged 18 and over and around 1,000 homeowners from Germany were questioned.
