The GDW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies recently published various tips on the subject of "saving energy" to mark the current situation. These include lowering the room temperature. According to the association, temperatures of 20 to 22 degrees are sufficient during the heating period. If the apartment is aired, the heating should be turned off beforehand to save energy costs.
In addition, it is better to air the room several times a day than to leave the windows ajar for long periods of time. If it is freezing, the period for each airing should be around 5 minutes. During the transitional period, this period should be increased to around 10 to 15 minutes. Ventilation should also take place after getting up, before going to bed, after cooking and after showering.
According to the association, electricity can also be saved by switching off electrical appliances completely. The best way to do this is to use power strips with an appropriate switch. Anyone buying new electrical appliances should pay attention to the energy efficiency label. According to the association, energy-efficient appliances can save more than 50 euros a year compared to older appliances.
