The German Quality Association for Furniture (DGM) advises people to try out chairs and upholstered furniture extensively before buying. Prospective buyers should take 30 minutes or more to test the new piece of furniture. According to the DGM, they should not only check the individual seating comfort, but also take a closer look at the other features of the piece of furniture.
Among other things, the surface material plays a role here. For the prospective buyer, it should feel pleasant against the skin, not make any annoying noises or spread any unpleasant odors. "It's also best for the partner or the whole family to try out new seating or upholstered furniture to ensure that the seat height, upholstery and backrests allow all future users to sit comfortably - even for several hours at a time," says DGM Managing Director Jochen Winning.
Before making a purchase decision, prospective buyers can also check whether the piece of furniture has the "Golden M" quality mark. This is awarded by Deutsche Gütergemeinschaft Möbel and identifies pieces of furniture that meet strict criteria in terms of quality, safety and environmental protection. Once the perfect piece of furniture has been found, the new owners should not sit on it for too long. "Anyone who has to sit a lot, whether behind the wheel or in front of a screen, should take enough breaks in between and actively regenerate," says Jochen Winning.
