Study: 35 percent of single parents feel their rent is too high

56% of German tenants consider their rent to be reasonable, 12% consider it to be low and 7% even consider it to be very low. These are the findings of the "Servicemonitor Wohnen" study conducted by the consultancy firm Analyse & Konzepte immo.consult. Only 18% of those surveyed felt their rent was too high and only 7% felt it was far too high.

However, the perception differs depending on the target group. So-called starter households, which include 18 to 29-year-olds with their first home of their own, consider their rent to be low or very low. The reason for this is that they compare prices. Long-term tenants who benefit from low existing rents also consider their rent to be low or very low.

A closer look at the target groups reveals that single parents in particular rate their rent as high (25 percent) or far too high (10 percent). "Single parents are often only able to work to a limited extent, but compete on the housing market with dual-income families and childless couples who have a larger budget," explains Katrin Trunec Analyse & Konzepte immo.consult. In view of the rising ancillary costs, this particularly disadvantaged target group should not be lost sight of.
