Study: Living in old age

What kind of living environment do the very old live in in Germany? The answers to these and other questions are provided in the eighth short report of the D80+ study "Old Age in Germany" by the University of Cologne, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). The results show that 64.9% of respondents feel connected to their living environment. This attachment is greater when senior citizens live in their familiar surroundings and not in a care home.

However, most of the senior citizens surveyed have to overcome obstacles in their living environment. At least only 9.1% of respondents stated that they did not have to overcome any obstacles such as stairs. Senior citizens living in homes or care facilities find better conditions in this respect.

The BMFSFJ points out that most people want to remain living at home in old age. This is the case even if they need support. Interested parties can therefore find further information on the topic, for example on special programs or brochures, on the bmfsfj.de website.
