The 100 largest listed construction companies are building more and more despite the coronavirus pandemic. This is according to the "Global Powers of Construction" study published by Deloitte GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft. According to Deloitte, total turnover in construction activity amounted to USD 1.8 trillion in 2021, an increase of 14% compared to the previous year.
However, Deloitte points out that the study does not yet take into account the war in Ukraine, which is leading to supply bottlenecks and price increases. The first six places with the highest turnover are occupied by companies from China; China State Construction Engineering Corp. Ltd. leads the way with an annual turnover of 293 billion euros. Vinci follows in 7th place with an annual turnover of 58 billion euros, the first company from Europe (France). Bauer AG is the only German company in the top 100, with an annual turnover of around 1.8 billion euros.
"The ongoing pandemic restrictions, the side effects of the current geopolitical crises and the general economic slowdown are already having an impact on the development of the global construction industry," says Michael Müller, Partner and Real Estate Leader at Deloitte. At the same time, he sees opportunities for development in the construction industry, partly due to advancing digitalization. Interested parties can download the study free of charge at deloitte.com.
