According to project developers and property owners, tenants want fast broadband internet for working from home (58% and 57% respectively), larger apartments (42% and 51% respectively) and apartments with study rooms (42% and 46% respectively). These are the findings of the study "Future Living - Outlook 2022. Housing trends of the future" by the business and consulting firm PwC Germany. The study, for which around 50 real estate project developers and portfolio holders, including investors, owners, landlords and housing associations, were surveyed between July and October 2021, also came to other interesting conclusions.
For example, around six out of ten real estate developers and portfolio owners surveyed assume that regulatory measures - such as the rent freeze - will be tightened further. However, this does not prevent them from continuing to invest in real estate. More than two thirds of respondents (68%) stated that they would like to invest in existing apartments or new-build projects.
PwC also surveyed property owners on the topic of climate protection. This revealed that 66 percent of respondents inform their tenants about measures that can reduce CO2 emissions. However, 31 percent of those surveyed stated that they do not do this. PwC sees the massive reduction in CO2 emissions that the housing market needs as a challenge.
