Study: High willingness to invest in greater sustainability

Germans are not only more environmentally aware, they are also under increasing cost pressure. This is the result of the study "Ecological sustainability as a driver of the transformation of housing in Germany", which was conducted by the Technical University of Darmstadt in cooperation with the real estate loan broker baufi24.de.

Among other things, the researchers found that private households want to take measures during the construction process in order to live in an environmentally conscious and cost-effective way later on. In addition, over 80 percent of prospective buyers and owners are willing to optimize the technical building equipment and invest in solar systems, heat pumps or electricity storage.

However, the study also shows that the majority of respondents already have to spend a lot of money on housing. Over 40 percent of respondents stated that they spend more than a third of their net household income on housing.
