More prefabricated timber houses were built in Germany in 2021. This is according to the Federal Association of German Prefabricated Construction (BDF). The trend is continuing, especially for apartment buildings. In prefabricated timber construction, wall and ceiling elements are assembled on the construction site in a short time - a house is built.
According to the BDF, 14,043 new multi-family homes were approved nationwide between January and September 2021 - 728 of which were prefabricated. Compared to the same period last year, prefabricated construction in this sector grew by 13.9% and therefore faster than the market as a whole. The latter only grew by 5.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
The BDF assumes that more apartment buildings will be built using prefabricated timber construction in the future and sees numerous reasons for this. For example, all services come from a single source, the construction phase is easy to plan and drying times can be avoided by using wood.
