The Federal Office for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) has announced the 29 entries that have made it to the final of the ideas competition "Join in, do it together. We are shaping structural change in our region". The competition was looking for ideas that could improve the quality of life in the Lusatia, Central German and Rhineland regions affected by the coal phase-out.
Out of 80 entries, 29 have made it to the shortlist, which are likely to be feasible and can benefit the region. "The competition entries show the innovative spirit of civil society and local authorities. I am confident that many of the project ideas will ultimately become reality," said BBSR Director Dr. Markus Eltges.
A jury will decide on the five best entries in May. The winning entries will then be chosen at the 1st Federal Congress "Day of the Regions". This will be held in Cottbus from June 14 to 16. The five winners will each receive prize money of 20,000 euros. In addition, they will receive further financial support if they organize a closing event and publish their results.
