Conversion: Turning old into new

The "schoener-wohnen.de" portal shows in a series of pictures how a dark semi-detached house in an old building can be transformed into a modern and light-flooded home. Various measures, such as removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, remodeling the bathroom and kitchen and choosing matching furniture, give the old semi-detached house a new lease of life.

With the support of a consultant, one family carried out the measures themselves, for example sanding down steps, giving the walls a new coat of paint and rebuilding old furniture and giving it a new function. Other furniture came from a flea market and some doors from an antique shop.

The conversion work took just over half a year and the conversion costs amounted to around 140,000 euros. Owners who would like to get ideas for converting their old semi-detached house can take a look at the photo gallery with tips at schoener-wohnen.de/architektur/umbauen-renovieren/angekommen-im-neuen-zuhause_12620260-12636112.html.
