Study: Mobile communications standard influences real estate value

The 5G mobile communications standard, which enables high-speed data transmission, can have an impact on property values. This is the result of a study entitled "Value impact of mobile phone systems on property prices for single-family home use in rural areas". Heribert Franz Pölzl submitted this to the Department of Building and Environment at Danube University Krems in Austria in May 2021.

Pölzl interviewed estate agents for the study. They stated that real estate brokerage had become difficult in areas without sufficient mobile phone coverage. According to the study, good mobile phone coverage with high bandwidths, as made possible by 5G, is now just as much a part of residential real estate as electricity, water, sewerage and other infrastructure.

The study also shows that since the coronavirus pandemic, people looking for real estate have placed greater value on appropriate mobile phone coverage and available bandwidth. The 5G mobile communications standard is the successor to LTE and offers increasing transmission speeds combined with falling costs and low energy consumption.
