Study: Swiss examine neighborhood

In the study "Hallo Nachbar*in - Die große Schweizer Nachbarschaftsstudie", the Swiss examined how neighborhoods function in Switzerland and what types of neighborhoods there are. Based on an empirical representative quantitative survey and a qualitative study, the GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute concludes that "neighborliness in Switzerland works [remarkably well] [...]."

Although distance prevails in the relationship between neighbors, they also trust each other. According to the GDI, neighbors do not want to make commitments to each other, but they do help each other - and have taken on small errands for each other during the pandemic, for example. However, according to the GDI, the pandemic has not led to a lasting change in the relationship between neighbors.

The study, which was conducted by the GDI in May 2022 and answers questions such as "Would you like more contact with your neighbors?", sheds light on neighborhood relationships and examines the changing neighborhood, can be found on the website https://gdi.ch/publikationen/studien.
