Can shutters on windows protect against burglary?

Roller shutters on windows protect against strong sunlight and serve as thermal insulation. But can attached roller shutters also keep burglars away and protect against burglary? If the roller shutters are certified according to DIN EN 1627, they are assigned to a certain resistance class and are partially burglar-resistant. Thus, the certified shutters are additionally secured and are difficult to push up and lever out. Electric roller shutters also offer increased security protection, because they cannot be pushed up easily.

However, apart from the certified and electric shutters, the commercially available window devices have no anti-burglary function. Likewise, it should be mentioned that lowered shutters can give the impression that no one is home and look inviting to burglars. Therefore, owners should not refrain from investing in a professional security system. Burglar-resistant windows with a mushroom head lock, anti-lift device as well as modified hardware offer a high level of security protection.

The resistance class recommended by security authorities for windows and doors should be at least RC 2 or higher. Alternatively, rolling grilles in front of windows are also well suited as burglary protection. However, the bars are not to everyone's liking visually. Anyone who decides to buy a rolling grille should find out about the different security classes.
