In a survey conducted by Interhyp AG, Germany's largest mortgage broker, 1,000 people in Germany were asked about construction and housing. Above all, the topics of ecology and sustainability played a central role in the survey. The results show that environmental protection and sustainable and energy-efficient building and living are important to very important for 87 percent of respondents. Only 4 percent of respondents do not focus on environmentally friendly building and living or do not consider it important.
In principle, more than three quarters of respondents are considering alternative forms of housing. Above all, an eco-house or a multigenerational house met with a lot of approval among the respondents. For example, 43 percent of respondents could imagine living in a house built to "ecological standards" and 29 percent could live in a multigenerational house. Likewise, 29 percent could imagine living in a houseboat.
Tiny houses, which are currently in vogue, represent an alternative form of living for only 13 percent of respondents, followed by living in a tree house, which 11 percent of respondents could imagine. Multiple answers were possible in the survey. It must also be mentioned that 15 percent of respondents do not consider any of the alternative forms of housing as a place to live. Interhyp draws attention to the numerous government subsidy options in the area of energy-efficient living and construction and advises those interested in buying and building to seek advice from a financing expert during the planning phase.
