Tip: Proper ventilation and heating in autumn and winter

Even with cold temperatures in autumn and winter, regular ventilation is essential. This is the only way to prevent mold and guarantee optimum humidity in the respective rooms. To ensure that no more cool air enters than necessary and the rooms cool down unnecessarily, short bursts of ventilation are recommended. The windows should be opened wide four to five times a day for five to a maximum of ten minutes to ensure a regular exchange of air. Airing on a tilt for long periods is not recommended.

To avoid mold and ensure a consistently healthy indoor climate, a humidity of 40 to 60 percent should be achieved. If you want to be on the safe side, you can measure the humidity with a hygrometer. With a ventilation system, the humidity can even be regulated automatically. In this case, almost all the heat is extracted from the stale and humid air, and additional oxygen-rich air is added to the rooms as needed. Modern ventilation systems are very energy efficient.

Some rules should also be observed when heating. For example, the radiator should never be turned off completely, but should heat the rooms permanently at a temperature of 17 degrees. If the heaters are turned off completely, the walls cool down so much that it takes a while for them to warm up again when they are heated again. If the warm heating air hits the cold exterior walls, it condenses and forms condensation. If the walls are cool and damp, there is a risk of mold growth.
