There are 21.7 million residential and non-residential buildings in Germany, which play an important role in energy policy and the energy transition. In the "dena Building Report Compact 2019", the German Energy Agency publishes figures and statistics on the subject of energy efficiency in the building stock in Germany and highlights the topics of building stock, energy consumption, building efficiency and climate policy.
Even though the Climate Protection Program 2030 creates a good basis for the energy turnaround in buildings, further measures must also be pursued in the future in order to achieve the energy and climate targets. The refurbishment of older buildings in particular plays an important role here. For example, the insulation of exterior walls and roofs, the installation of new windows and the replacement of old heating systems, for which there are also government subsidies, can continue to increase the energy balance in buildings. According to analyses in the dena Building Report, an increase in the renovation rate from one to one and a half percent is desirable.
In the fields of building efficiency and climate policy, the Building Report also looks at which innovative technologies and business models need to be used and which political measures are necessary to actually achieve the climate targets set by 2030. The "dena Building Report Compact 2019" can be downloaded from the website of the German Energy Agency or ordered free of charge in print format.
