In addition to energy-efficient renovation and modernization measures, such as good external insulation of the building envelope or the installation of new windows, residents can use numerous everyday measures to reduce their energy consumption, cut costs and do something for the environment at the same time. The German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) has compiled helpful tips on its website on how consumers can reduce their energy consumption quickly and sustainably.
For example, BDEW points out that the energy labels A+++ to D or A to G, with which all household appliances are marked, need to be scrutinized more closely. This is because technology and the requirements for energy-efficient appliances are developing rapidly, so that the energy efficiency classes A to D no longer comply with the European Ecodesign Regulations. This means that commercially available household appliances labeled A+ deliver the worst energy performance.
To analyze and check electricity consumption in the household, BDEW refers to the "Stromspiegel für Deutschland". The HEA-Fachgemeinschaft für effiziente Energieanwendung, a partner organization of BDEW, provides an HEA online calculator that consumers in private households can use to check their electricity consumption and the efficiency of their household appliances. In the free HEA expertise database, consumers can find, among other things, specific information on efficiency classes as well as the electricity consumption of their household appliances. The "Ganz einfach Energiesparen" online platform provides service tools on the subject of saving energy and offers a listing of experts who deal with the subject of energy efficiency.
