If the parquet floor is damaged with small scratches or dents, they can be repaired on their own, without having to sand down the whole room or apartment. Depending on the extent of the defect or damage and how it came to the damage, amateur craftsmen can resort to different measures. It is recommended to test the right method on a leftover piece of parquet in advance.
In the case of defects and minor damage, the parquet floor can be polished, for example, or repaired with wood paste, wax or an iron. Polishing is particularly suitable if the scratches are only light and not deep. With a little oil or wax, which is also used for parquet cleaning and maintenance, the damage can be easily polished away. The small scratches can also be removed in the same way with a furniture polish that is right for the floor.
If the scratches are somewhat deeper or the floor already has dents, the parquet can be repaired and maintained with wood paste or so-called wood putty as well as with wax. In this case, the mixed paste or wax is applied to the previously cleaned floor, allowed to dry and then sanded. With floor wax, it is recommended to mix different shades to imitate the color of the grain as much as possible. When repairing with an iron, the wood expands due to contact with moisture and heat. If you pour a little water on the dent and hold the hot iron briefly over the dent to be repaired a few times, it will gradually disappear. After that, the processed area must be sealed and maintained with wax, oil or a sealing pen.
