What to look for in a garden shed?

Whether as additional storage space, a tool shed or a personal retreat, a garden shed can be erected for a variety of purposes. Depending on the regulations in the respective federal state, a garden shed may not exceed a certain size, otherwise it requires a building permit. The regulations are listed in the respective state building codes.

Although for a garden house wood is the most popular building material for many owners, they are also available in metal, plastic or even stone and glass. Depending on which building material is chosen, care must be taken to ensure that the house is placed on the correct foundation. For example, while a small tool shed made of plastic can stand only on a flat and compacted ground without a foundation, a larger house requires a slab or a concrete foundation.

Garden houses can be designed and built yourself or purchased as a kit in the hardware store, as well as in the online store and set up in the garden. Even though windows and doors are often part of the kit, the roof is not always included. More cost-effective roof solutions are a monopitch or flat roof. With a flat roof, care should be taken to ensure that it has a slope of at least ten degrees so that rainwater can drain away. A saddle roof is also very popular, but its construction is somewhat more costly.
