Anyone who is about to build a house has to make any number of decisions. One of them concerns the type of roof. Basically, there are two different types of roofs to choose from: a pitched roof or a flat roof. Houses with flat roofs have many advantages. The compact shape of the flat roof house resembles a cube and features a clean, simple design. A flat roof has no roof slopes as a pitched roof house has and therefore offers a large living and floor space even on the upper floor.
If you dream of a light-flooded house and want large window fronts even on the top floor, you can realize this wish in a flat roof house. Large window areas can be installed without any problems and give the house an architecturally modern and clear look. Those who like it a little more creative can move parts of the building in a flat roof house and thus create space for a terrace or a balcony. A roof terrace is also just a matter of house construction planning in a flat roof house.
But caution is advised: Before planning a building, owners should find out which building and roof construction methods apply on the property in question, as each municipality has different regulations. A look at the development plan will clarify whether a multi-story house with a flat roof may be built on the property. Another important point with a flat-roofed house is proper construction; above all, the roof must be one hundred percent watertight. A roof slope of two percent is the minimum requirement for construction. Three to five percent is even recommended, so that the rainwater can drain off effectively. Roof drains on the roof surface and good roof waterproofing are just as much a part of a flat roof house as good thermal insulation and a load-bearing structure.
