Concepts: Mobility in residential quarters

With the "Nationwide Housing and Mobility Network" project, the Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies (GdW) aims to encourage residents of residential neighborhoods to use environmentally friendly means of transport in their daily lives and to avoid driving. The aim when planning modern and mobile residential neighborhoods is therefore for residents to ideally get around by bicycle or public transport, such as the bus or train, or to make use of sharing services.

To this end, GdW is working with the German Ecological Transport Club (VCD) and other partners to develop new mobility concepts for residential neighborhoods in order to bring together and promote mobility and environmental protection in residential neighborhoods. A total of 16 cities from 8 different regions in Germany are jointly developing forward-looking mobility concepts that focus on sustainability, innovation and integrity. The focus of the concept development is on cooperation between partners from the city administration, housing companies and mobility service providers.

The VCD takes over the organization and moderation of the talks and takes the lead in ensuring a smooth transfer of knowledge between the various partners. In this way, innovative mobility concepts are developed jointly and in a targeted manner, which can be used both in new construction projects and in existing properties. For the further development of the mobility projects, the network partners also offer consulting workshops to interested cities and stakeholders. The "Housing and Mobility Network" project is the continuation of the "Housing leads Mobility" mobility project from the previous year. The campaign is scheduled to run until April 2023 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The network work is also to be continued in the future.
