Just in time for the heating season, it's worth thinking about effective energy-saving measures. A simple and lucrative means of saving costs and living energy-efficiently is hydraulic balancing of the heating system. Here, a craftsman determines how much heat each individual room in the house or apartment actually needs to create a comfortable room temperature. Accordingly, he adjusts the thermostats so that sufficient, but not too much, hot water flows into the radiators.
If hydraulic balancing is not carried out in a heating system, most of the hot water first flows into the radiators located in the immediate vicinity of the boiler. Subsequently, less hot water is supplied to the nearest radiator than to the first. The radiator even further away receives little hot water and is often undersupplied. As a result, some rooms remain cool despite high heating output, while others are heated too much. The result is an irregular distribution of heating.
Hydraulic balancing is particularly advisable if structural changes or modernization measures have been carried out on the house or in the apartment. Even if the heating system makes noises, such as whistling, or a new heating pump or boiler has been installed, the radiators should be adjusted correctly. The cost of hydraulic balancing ranges from 650 to 1,250 euros. With the subsidy of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control, up to 30 percent of the total net costs can be reimbursed. According to experts, energy consumption in the home can be reduced by up to 15 percent thanks to hydraulic balancing.
