It is not always necessary to knock off old wall tiles and lay new ones. Sometimes it is already worth painting with tile paint or tile varnish to give the bathroom, kitchen or floor tiles a new look. Basically, amateur craftsmen can choose between matte and glossy tile varnish. Even though glossy paint is less expensive, it does not cover as well as matte paint. When choosing the right paint or varnish, it is also important to make sure that it is water-resistant, easy to apply and intended for dry or wet areas. There are special varnishes for floor tiles or wall tiles in outdoor areas.
But before it comes to painting, the tiles must first be cleaned of oil and grease residues, silicones and other substances. Sealants must also be removed and cleaned with a silicone remover. Depending on the type of tile and material, the tiles are either sanded or polished and then cleaned of dust residues. After the cleaning process, the tiles must be completely dry. Cracks or small holes can be repaired with grout white.
The foam roller is used to apply the primer thoroughly to the tiles. The primer should dry according to the package instructions. Some tile paints already contain a primer and can therefore be applied directly to the tile. To ensure that the new wall is particularly well protected against water, it is advisable to paint the tiles twice. Here, a waiting time of 12 to 24 hours should be observed between the two processes and the tiles should be completely dry. Finally, the joints are filled with new silicone.
