Forsa study: Living in old age

The Forsa study "Living in old age" commissioned by Vivir as part of the "Vivienda" project deals with the redevelopment of the living culture of the 60 plus generation. Vivir's project planning focuses on housing and living concepts that are geared toward a lively community and individual service offerings. New living concepts are designed to ensure self-determined living and living in old age. The survey results of the study clearly show that people over 60 yearn for living concepts that focus on community, activity and service.

For example, one in two of the respondents would move again in their old age. Likewise, half of the study participants cherish the desire to continue making new acquaintances in the future and to be involved in a community: 77 percent of the participants would share the garden with others, 65 percent the sports and fitness room, 44 percent the washing machine and 37 percent the car. When asked what aspects are important as they age, 88 percent of study participants said they want to enjoy their own lives. 64 percent would like to discover new hobbies and 58 percent would like to make new friends.

In addition to living in community, the study participants focus on aspects such as safety and comfort. These include, for example, a good infrastructure and proximity to public transport as well as to doctors and everyday necessities. Age-appropriate furnishings, barrier-free accessibility and individual services are the cornerstone of a self-determined lifestyle for 90 percent of the participants. According to the study participants, modern housing and living concepts in the area of "living in old age" also include sports and leisure activities as well as a range of events, lectures and happenings.
