When the days get warmer, many are drawn to the terrace. Especially wooden terraces enjoy great popularity. The wooden planks look very natural and fit perfectly into the environment. The building material wood also radiates warmth and coziness, yet does not heat up much in direct sunlight. Likewise, a wooden floor is load-bearing, robust and has good insulating properties. If you want to use wood as a floor covering on your patio, you should consider the planning, construction and maintenance.
Since there are a variety of woods available, there are also numerous options for the design and look of the wood plank flooring. A native and popular softwood is Douglas fir. This coarse-grained wood is weather resistant and not susceptible to fungus or insects. It is also quite easy to care for. After cleaning with a brush or cloth, it is enough to apply a wood oil to the floor. A de-greaser will make the terrace floor shine for a long time.
For those who value a long life of the wooden floor, a floor made of tropical teak is suitable. This is very resistant to weather influences, but quite costly. From an ecological point of view, however, teak is not recommended, since the deforestation of the rainforest and long transport routes are contrary to environmental friendliness. If you want to know more about woods, you will find it in DIN EN 350-2. It provides information about the different durability classes. While teak belongs to class 1 and is classified as "very durable", woods such as birch, beech and willow belong to durability class 5 "not durable".
